SALANGO ISLAND TOUR

SPECIFICATIONS:
This program is held at Salango island, 20 minutes south of Puerto López. The island counts with 200 hectares and was used by aborigines to extract the spondylus shell and offer sacrifices to their gods. In the year 200, with the help of some ONG and Machalilla National Park, an organized visitation system was implemented, along with proper remodeling of areas for traditional and recreational fishing. The island's environmental conditions make for optimum diversity of marine species and coral reefs.
It's also one of the most important places for surface diving of snorkeling, as you can observe a rich variety of colorful fishes and coral reefs that are unique to Ecuadorian coasts.
It also holds one of the biggest colonies of pelicans, blue-footed boobies, and fragatas, many of whom are the visitor's favorites.
ITINERARY
10H00: Departure from Puerto López to Salango Island on a 25 minute ride. There are stops at the cliffs to observe the blue-footed boobies, pelicans, and fragatas as well as fishing.
11H00: Arrival to Salango Island, snorkeling on the maritime parcel to watch various species of fishes and coral reefs.
12H30: Visit to the island's marvelous beach, cold lunch, and kayaking.
14H00: Return to Puerto López

NOTE: This kind of tour is recommended for all kinds of visitors since it requires minimum strain since previous experience is not required to do all the activities described previously, and it's short in duration.
